The Eruptors first graced our pages with a very entertaining interview with our own Madame Tizzy some time back. They have since drank a few more pints, released an album and were obviously still buzzed enough to actually let me send them some more questions.
These guys are a fun bunch and make great music as well! Learn some more about what's happening with them, and as always....
Enjoy....
D-Day: Thank you for speaking with D-Day's Revenge once again!
Jeff: It’s a pleasure.
Alex: It’s great to be back
Gary: Yo, mutha fucka!
D-Day: You've obviously released a new album called, "Bad Time To Have A Good Time". It was certainly a good time hearing it and it made me think of what the unplanned offspring would be after an orgy between punk, sleaze, metal, garage and experimental all in a big, nasty, sweaty pile. Do you consider yourself to be mainly under a certain genre of music? How do you explain your style?
Alex: We mix up all of those styles you just mentioned, we call it ‘1000% Rock’. Another label could be ‘Sleazoid garage metal’.
Jeff: Basically, we’re rock n’ roll. I don’t know what that means to the world at large anymore but to me means doing what you want to do ‘cause that’s what feels good to you.
Gary: On the album we aimed to play really fast and loud, with an ear for structure and not betting bored. Making each song an autonomous statement in rawk is our mission. Personally, I also love folk, jazz and prog rock for their sensitivity and cleverness; I love rock for the ballsiness and drive it has. So I create my own hybrid. The best part is that the other guys in the band actually encourage this form of self-indulgence. That’s one of the truly excellent things about being in a trio – you have the opportunity, and indeed requirement, to fill out the sonic space.
D-Day: How has the reception been in relation to the album?
Alex: Mostly ‘awesome’, as you say in the USA. Our crowd have really taken to it, even if no one was expecting our debut album to be a sci-fi space-war themed space rock opera!!! Reviews in the rock press have been mostly great, just check out the quotes on our myspace page. We’re really pleased about that because we weren’t sure what the ‘critics’ would make of it…and to be honest there have been a few who didn’t quite get it…
Jeff: So overall mostly good, some bad and a naturally a fair amount of confusion. Which is kinda perfect really ‘cause I think that’s what we were trying to do even if we knew it or not!!
Gary: The fact is that our record is a rollicking rock and roll ride - great playing, fun concept, lotta energy. And with some decent (read ‘expensive) promotion, it could be a cult classic. Please invest in us.
D-Day: Do you have any plans for touring or doing support shows coming up? Tell us about it.
Alex: We’re open to bookings, so promoters get in touch.
D-Day: How long will you wait before starting to write your next album? Do you constantly write music or take some breaks?
Jeff: Next album is already written and nearly all recorded. It’s another concept album, this time about a really cool kinda rock n’ roll party that turns demonic at the stroke of midnight. We’re all in danger of losing our souls until we’re rescued by seminal British horror movie hero Captain Kronos, vampire killer. We’re pretty much always writing music I guess.
Gary: There are four songs still to mix, then we will be ready to give the world more. It is longer, bigger, louder and better than the first, brilliant, record.
Alex: We like to be an album ahead of ourselves….we’re already writing for the third. So to summarise: right now we’re promoting the first, mixing the second, and writing the third. We’re productive!
D-Day: Are you currently being played on mainstream radio? How do you feel about that or does it really matter to you these days?
Alex: Some, I think, and on television too. But not on heavy rotation, just on specialist shows on mainstream stations (punk, extreme sports, etc)
Gary: But at least we are being interviewed on DDays Revenge. In the words of Metallica, “Nothing Else Matters”. Although, we have an album out and the second one on the way, so in the words of Meat Loaf, “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”. And, while we’re on the subject, in the immortal words of the Spin Doctors, “Yo Mama’s a Pyjama”.
D-Day: If you could choose any three bands to join on a major tour, who would they be and why?
Jeff: 1) Atari Teenage Riot. 2) The Donna’s. 3) AC/DC
Gary: 1) Iron Maiden, because we would be the perfect warm-up act for them. And they for us! 2) Mariah Carey – her music is some of the worst I have ever heard, and people need to realize they’ve been duped into embracing it. 3) Fifty Cent – see above.
Alex: Jump in a time machine and head back to 1988/89 and tour with 1) Iron Maiden, 2) Guns n’ Roses, 3) WASP
D-Day: Let's try a multiple choice question...
What would be the funnest thing to take along with you on a tour bus?
a) Paintball guns
b) A massive video game collection
c) Video cameras
d) Alyssa Milano
Alex: c) So we can film the gigs and the crazy people we meet along the way
Jeff: I’m going to go with d) but only ‘cause I don’t know who that is. The unknown is always fun….
Gary: A sleeping bag
Alex: There’s a rumour that he uses the sleeping bag as a condom.
D-Day: Do you have any interest in signing with a "major" label at this time?
Jeff: Yep, but only if keep complete creative control over everything. I don’t think it would work out really.
Gary: We want to be full-time rockers. But SonyBMG prefer to give you the blandest of shit that you already know.
Alex: Would you trust the majority of those donuts to manage your career? I guess there’s a chance we might be one of the rock acts on independent label who break through and get picked up by a major someday, but it happens to very few bands of our music style so I’m not holding my breath. We’ll make music our way, regardless.
D-Day: Thank you again for speaking with us. Any final words or plugs that you would like to share with the fans?
Alex – Take a listen to songs from the album at www.myspace.com/eruptors, if you like it please buy it and tell your friends. Tell your enemies too. Buy a T-shirt. Put us in your music collections, your radios, your websites and your magazines. Eruptors! Eruptors! Go! Go! Go!
