The Doctor Project
Farewell... and Goodbye
Prescription Music
I was flattered when I got a note with this new album that said D-Day's Revenge would basically start the review process. I was also saddened when I saw the title:
"Farewell... and Goodbye". Hopefully, that's just a title. We'll soon find out, I'm sure.
I've always been a huge fan of the Doc, and was anxious to hear this one.
When I started it off on the first track, "Operation", I was once again blown away but kept coming back to my thoughts that I've always had. "Gee, I wish someone with so much talent could get some singing to go along just so he can get more attention." I know that artists such as himself HATE that being said or thought, but it's just the way the world bounces...
But wait!! Song number 2, "Machine Gun" starts off and then...... singing! WTF??
I must assume that it is the Doc, himself. It is a deep voice that first reminded me of Mandy Lion from WWIII. (For those that like comparisons) If you throw in the excellent guitar work, fans of the BLS material could easily get into this as well.
My main complaint comes with the third track, "Good Old Fashioned Butt Kickin' ". The name sounds like something that would be right up my alley, but I must say that the vocal effects ruined it. I'm just not a fan of that "sing into an empty barrel" effect. Plus it had my speakers rattling just from that. Not the volume... just that effect.
On a good note, the musicianship and solos had it seeming normal at about 3/4 of the way through. I would still tweak that though.
Track 4 "Last Man Of Metal" gets better on the vocals, but I would still lessen it a bit. I'm giddy at the thought of The Doctor Project having the singing though. I'm sure his confidence will eventually come in and he can ditch some of the special effects.
A great point of interest here is the line "Do you remember a thing called the guitar solo?" just before ripping into one! And it's awesome! Great job.
"Unforgiving" is one of those cool prodding songs that gets the head bobbing and adrenaline flowing. A good mix to throw in here.
And then there's "Countdown To Execution". This is one that takes me back to the great band, Hallows Eve. Crunching music and vocals combined. There also seems to be a message in this one... I'll let you be the judge.
The next track, "Farewell and Goodbye" is a beautiful yet haunting sounding song. With the Pink Floyd type stylings and the type of musicianship the Doc always provides, this one stands out to me. I can picture 110% of his soul poured into this one.
Simply amazing.... Beautiful...
The album ends with "Epitaph". A fitting title for an ending song and continues with the obvious "deep" sound. I'll be honest and say that I can't understand all the words so I can't give the deep meaning it may have, but it is a wonderful sounding song and once again shows off the Doc's great musicianship. I love the guitar work here.
And that's it folks... another great project from the Doc! A true artist and we want more! Go listen to the wonderful music that he's created, you'll be blown away!
Check out the Doc here!
