And the quest moves on.....
I'm always happy to find different bands from different areas that can provide entertaining music for the masses. Once again I've been introduced to a band from a friend and now would like to introduce them to you!
Meet The Aeon Saga. Not only do they provide great music, but they also have a great sense of humor, are hard working, and were inspired by a giant floating head. It doesn't get much better than that....
D-Day: Thank you for speaking with D-Day's Revenge...
TAS: No Problem. Thanks for the interview.
D-Day: How would you describe your general sound to the masses?
TAS: Dark. Heavy. Rhythmic. Moody. Melodic. Dynamic. Heart-wrenching. Epic. Each song is a story, each phrase a page-turning. Like a graphic novel that plays music while you read it. A morbid hallmark card of pain.
We use elements of rock, metal, folk, and jazz to create a unique sound; one that both defines the band in our own context and serves the stories we tell. Our music is a vast emotional landscape that describes the struggle of a generation forced to raise itself.
D-Day: I see in your bio that you have a 3 track demo available. What can you tell us about that?
TAS: It was basically a “live” recording done in the studio. The quality isn't fantastic, but we needed something to give out to fans pronto, and considering we did it in about 6 hours, it isn't that bad. We'll be re-releasing the demo with a more professional quality recording and a fourth track added on as an EP soon.
D-Day: Are you currently in search of a label or are you waiting?
TAS: Of course we'd love to get signed, but we're all old enough to be cautious and find the deal that works best for us. A label that would really believe in our sound and vision and back us up but not get in our way our step on our toes would be ideal.
D-Day: How far do you travel or are willing to travel for shows at this time?
TAS: As far as we can go without getting fired (some of us are desk monkeys/corporate drones). Road trips ARE awesome, especially when they lead to great shows; but we would need outside financial support for plane travel and whatnot.
D-Day: Speaking of which.... if you had the power to choose any three bands to hit the road with on a worldwide jaunt, who would they be and why?
TAS: Tool, Opeth, and Fear Factory. All of them are pretty dark and progressive as far as metal goes, and we would mesh well together.
D-Day: How did you come up with the band name, The Aeon Saga?
TAS: David was dreaming and there was this Floating, Giant Disembodied Head. They had a rather intense conversation about music and the Floating, Giant Disembodied Head whispered it to him. Essentially it means "The Long Story," which fits us for too many reasons to list.
D-Day: Do you have some groupies yet? You can tell us....
TAS: Given time, we'll surely have a whole harem.
D-Day: What's been the craziest thing to happen to you as a band while performing, preparing to play or traveling to play so far? You know... any looney fans, Spinal Tap moments, wardrobe or equipment malfunctions, someone shit their pants..... you get the idea.
TAS: There was a girl who wandered into our practice space and informed us all that she LOVED drummers. We started to play and she flashed Justin 3 times and left before the song finished. Anyway, her face looked like an ass. Justin didn't miss a beat. It was HILARIOUS.
D-Day: Let's try a multiple choice question....
A promoter comes up and says that he has this major show lined up for you. The other acts are Justin Timberlake and Avril Lavigne.
How do you respond?
a) Say "fuck it" and start thinking of ways to spend the money.
b) Waste a perfectly good guitar by smashing it over his head.
c) Say that you'll take the tour if you can get Avril on your tour bus to pass around.
d)
Smack Justin and then play.
TAS: e) Say “fuck it” and waste a perfectly good guitar by smashing it over Justin's head while starting to think of ways to the spend money on hot outfits to dress Avril up in while passing her around the tour bus.
D-Day: While you obviously want everyone possible to hear your music now.... what would be your solution to music downloading once you get signed? I'll assume you don't want to give it all away for free. It's a big issue..... what are your thoughts?
TAS: We understand that most of a band's profit comes from ticket sales and merchandising. We don't mind people downloading the music since we mainly just want them to hear and enjoy it. Such dissemination can help our popularity, anyway. If people enjoy our music, then we're likely to sell them something- like a t-shirt or a ticket- even if it isn't a CD.
Besides, there is nothing we can do to keep fans from uploading music to the web. They love their tunes and they want to share with their friends. No matter what you do, some ingenious little fart will find a way around it.
The industry has ways of discouraging it, like voice-overs on all non-official downloads: "This song is the intellectual property of [This Awesome Band]. Duplication and illegal file sharing are prohibited..." That sucks to hear in the middle of your favorite part of that hot, new tune you just downloaded.
The tunes are copyrighted so no-one else can take credit for them. Someone who really loves music loves their CD and/or Record Collection(s). Real Die-Hard Fans buy CD's, everyone else is a poser; excepting the totally broke, poor-ass bastards on the bottom. And if you're totally destitute and savagely devoted, we'll buy it for you.
D-Day: What are your goals as a band?
TAS: What every band really wants: to write Great Music and make it our career... So we can quit our desk monkey warehouse jobs and be Who We Really Are.
D-Day: Thank you again for speaking with us! Any final words?
TAS: This is Just the Beginning.
Come and see us!
