Set For Dawn
EP

I was pleasantly surprised once I started this disc.
I had a "stereotyping" thing going on, and based on the ages of the members, was expecting a teen angst/scream-o/mallcore type sound.  Something I may not have a real interest in, basically. But once I put it on and started listening, I was blown away at the talent these guys have. Perhaps by pure definition, they ARE what I described; I really don't know...the millions of "genres" in metal can get confusing and blurred even for me. But it's not what I was anticipating anyway.

I was met with thundering guitars and both screaming and growling vocals that sound very proffessional and made me sit up in my seat. Vocally, it would be like maybe Dimmu Borgir and Decapitated trading off vocals. Much like Grimfist or some Kataklysm, actually. (All good stuff...)

I was initially put off a bit by the clean vocals occasionally thrown in. Not for the simple fact that they are there, mind you (I do love many bands like Shadows Fall etc. that would do that) but it didn't seem to fit as far as the overall sound quality. I went from banging my head to.. huh? But with some production help, I'm sure it will blend right in.
Although I must say... after playing "His Words Are Alive" so often, I don't know if I could now accept it sounding different if the line "If your heart was as big as you mouth...." was done in another way. I will always sing it the same way when it gets stuck in my head, as it always does. That one is infectious!! Trust me.

Everything else sounds to me as if it was rolled out of a major studio. I love crunch and growls and all things metal and this one gets played alot. This is a gem for anyone wanting an early start with Set For Dawn. Trust me.... find it and get it!
