I want to introduce you all to an Austrian friend of mine, Michaela . “Metal” is a huge part of her life. She is the webmaster for the websites of Jag Panzer, Chris Lasegue and Samsarra ( my band) and she promotes many metal bands worldwide.
She is also a personal friend of mine and I have had the pleasure of hanging out with her in real life in Southern California.
BUT – the point of this interview is Michaela's live action photography at various European Metal Shows & Festivals. Her work is amazing!!!
This interview is to promote her website “Metal-Rock Impressions” which is dedicated to her photography. So, GO CHECK OUT MY FRIEND'S WEBSITE!!! Thanks!
Let the festivities begin-
RS: I know you recently had a Birthday, so...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
M: Thanks a lot, Scott!
RS: Wie Gehts, Mein Freund?
M: I'm doing pretty fine, 2011 already started great with shooting some pics for “Rock meets Classic” last week, where Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE), Lou Gramm (FOREIGNER), Dan McCafferty (NAZARETH) und Les Holroyd (BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST) played their greatest hits with the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague & the Mat Sinner Band! It's been a quite impressive and beautiful atmosphere there.
RS: So how many websites do you manage? Which ones?
M: I am proud to say that I manage the website of my favorite band “Jag Panzer” and their guitar player “Chris Lasegue” + of course your band's page “Samsarra” ;)
RS: How did you get started as a Webmaster? Which site was the first to come under your direction?
M: It all started with the Samsara website, it's been my first try and from this point on I tried to improve my knowledge a bit. Later on I talked to the guys of Jag Panzer then and suggested to take care of their website.
RS: I know that you have been involved with the wonderful Keep It True festival for years; How did that come about?
M: I followed the call on their official website in 2005. They were looking for people, who help them out filming live-bands there. So I started to film for the first time and i'm happy to be a part of the team since then :-)
RS: When did you first develop an interest in photography?
M: It came step by step due to filming live-bands for KIT. I developed my interest there and my passion about it became stronger and stronger.
RS: What made you decide to start this website? Was there a certain event (or festival) that triggered this process?
M: I was talking to Chris from Jag Panzer ( cause I was just starting to build up his website) about the thought of creating my own one and he supported me a lot. I want to show people my work & of course I want a feedback to my pictures. Also it's great for promotion and hopefully lots of future shootings ;)
RS: I soooooooooooooo wish I could live in Europe! You folks have such a multitude of Festivals every year. How many do you go to and how do you decide which ones to attend? For example, if Graspop in Belgium and the Slovenian Metal Camp are the same week...how do you choose? Or, lol, is the answer "self-evident" because they never fall in the same week?
M: Well, my “problem” is that I hardly can go to a show or festival anymore without having a photopass and a cam in my hand ;-) I'd definitely miss something. So it pretty much depends for which one I get an accreditation for and of course where my friends will be.
RS: So you get special access to the stage for taking photos? That must be amazing to see all those bands from just a few feet away.
M: I get special access into the photo-pit, like every photographer who's got an accreditation. So most of the time i'm in a hurry to get good pictures during the first 3 songs of a band. I am concentrating a lot on the pictures. For me it's great to be in the front row cause otherwise my pictures would not turn out satisfying :)
RS: It was great to hang out with you in 2005!! When are you coming back to America?
M: As soon as I have some money left for another trip to the states. I'd love to go back to California, have been there twice and this place rocks indeed!!
RS: Is there anything else you would like to say to the World?
M: Well, I want to thank everyone who supports me in my photography and everyone I can really call a friend in this scene ( you know who you are ;-) You all mean a lot to me!
RS: Thank you very much ( Danke Fur Alles) for taking the time for this interview!!
M: You're welcome, have a great day!
(From the Editor: As mentioned in the interview.... be sure to check out the website linked above. There are some amazing live concert photos of the bands mentioned as well as Doro, Exodus, Death Angel, Manson, UDO and many more! ~ D-Day)
