Eddie of Lucem Ferre speaks with D-Day
D-Day's Revenge...
Speak Your Mind!
From the mountains of Idaho comes a sound of a new band that should grab the attention of many; Lucem Ferre. Founding member and proud father Eddie answered some questions for us and gives us some general information about the band. Enjoy...

D-Day: To start with, give the readers a description of your general sound. How would you describe it?

Eddie: Musically driving, lyrically deep true life stories. Hard rock/metal in genra, but no screaming, just pure vocals.

D-Day: You're working on an album called "The Jones" from what I read. What stage of that process are you at and what are your plans for distribution?

Eddie: Tough question, we lost our original drummer in October 06', so we're in process of rehearsals with our new drummer and brother from another mother, ex Holfiller drummer Tom Rentfro. So we're going to re/record the entire set that you hear on both myspace pages. Tom has his own style and adds a great deal to the songs, Z was a great time keeper, like Charlie watts in a metal band, Tom is an animal! the best drummer I have had the pleasure to work with. Plus we're recording Black Sabbaths "Faries wear boots" for Myka Jelina art and should be released through "Hot Topic" nation wide in just a few months. So we want to have at least a 6 song ep ready upon Faries release. Although we have twelve songs ready for a full length CD. But no real plans for distribution for" the Jones" as of yet.

D-Day: Is there any particular theme for the songs that will make up "The Jones" or will it be a wide variety of topic?

Eddie: It's a wide variety. Say for instance...

"Never goin' back" is all about life in the woods, where we live, " Never goin to leave where I can drink from a stream, walkin new tracks where there aint nobody been, deeper in the mountians than the sun ever shines, I make a new trail, I leave you all behind" from that to...

"Overtime" the story of our family friend and high school wrestler Blake Cord, 18 years old, three time state contender, four time letterman, recieved a pac 10 scolarship to play football, comitted suicide one night last year,
"the dream is fulfilled, this is the grand finale' the storys been told, if you could only see, the sign was a wall that you could not see clearly, I'm sure you'll never understand me! your head in your hands, palms wet and salty, now pray for my soul, since your on your knees, my ledgend lives on, in case you did not know me, I'm sure you'll all never forget me, cause now theres know one hear to stop me"

"Forbidden passages" is about drugs! both there positive and negetive affects on humanity,

"the Jones" is a suicide note, over an addiction to lust, the drug you cant help but to inhale. So I'd say a wide variety of songs lyrically as well as musically, we're very textured for being as raw as we are.

D-Day: Are you the main songwriter for the band or is there input from everyone?

Eddie: Both, so far, the way it has been is I will write a song on the acoustic guitar at home, I don't sit down to write a song, they just happen, riffs will happen by accident basically, or I'll wake up with a melody in my head and search it out on the guitar, or I'll have lyrics and a melody will just come naturally. Then I take my part of the song to rehearsal where Marcus and Tom will write there parts, I don't dictate music to the guys, they are both very acomplished writers and creators, I want there stamp on the music. Anything Marcus does has his mark all over it, he has a very melodic bass style for being as powerful as he is.

D-Day: Your bio mentions you and your son as members of Lucem Ferre. First off, who else is curently in the band?

Eddie: It's Marcus Cockerel on the Bass guitar (thats my son) Tom Rentfro on drums, and myself on guitar and vocals.

D-Day: When did the idea strike you to join up with your son for this experience?

Eddie: Marcus has been following me around since he was old enough to walk, he had attended every band practice he could with every cover band I was ever in for as long as I can remember. Marcus started playing when he was in the second grade. In the third grade he entered a talent competition, he was to play War Pigs on the guitar for his school, three days earlier he broke his left arm and couldn't position his cast to play the entire song, so he did a melody! war pigs/enter sandman/ cat scratch fever to end with. The little girls were going nuts! so its been in him from very early on. Much later I'm in a band in Missouri, Marcus is 14 and hauling equipment into clubs for us, as I was leaving that band, my other brother from another mother told me, "bro' you should teach Marcus to play bass and get him in a band with you", honestly . . .I kinda laughed, I never thought Marcus would get to that level before I turned to dust. Two years later Marcus was in a cover band with me called Insanity. At 16 Marcus was playing the clubs of North Idaho and Spokane. When we brought up the idea of writing our own music, the other guys in the band pussed and quit. Marcus and I decided to move forward. Thats how we went on to form LUCEM FERRE.

D-Day: I'm under the impression that you're on the road alot. Is this true and what type of touring are you doing now, if any?

Eddie: No touring right now, were busy recording. But give us a minute.......

D-Day: Which three other bands would make up a "dream tour" package for Lucem Ferre to hit the road with in your opinion?

Eddie: I think we could open for just about any band and would love the oppertunity to do just that, but in my openion lets say, were on the bill with Priest/Maiden/alice in chains and us . . . a Metallica/ Lucem Ferre show or Sabbath/LF, we wouldnt fare well with the death metal croud, but just about anybody else we could hold our own.

D-Day: You're from out there in the beautiful country of Idaho where I'm sure you can get some great inspiration for writing songs. Let's try a multiple choice question, in the spirit of all D-Day interviews, and tell me if any of these are a good reason for that.

a) The countryside has a peaceful effect that calms the mind

b) Having that Nordic look... thoughts of Vikings, battle and folklore keeps the creative juices flowing

c) Snorting all that snow stimulates the brain

d) All of the above

e) none of the above

Eddie: Some of all of the above, "Fishin from the mountians where I drink from a stream, huntin for an elk in some woods I've never seen, I ate a hand full of mushrooms sittin under neath a tree, the rain fell down for an hour on me" . . . .

see d-day, we live this shit! I fall trees to keep my house warm, I hunt for food, never for trophy. From my house, it's twenty five miles to a McDonalds . . .and we like it that way! we'll go visit the city when its time to tear it down!

D-Day: You have some great songs on your MySpace page for fans to listen to. How will you handle this when your new album comes out? Will you only provide shortened versions? How do you feel about music downloading in light of having a new album of which I'm sure you would want to sell plenty? Do you see it as a major issue?

Eddie: No, I was never into this for money, music should be free, and NO! we would never give our friends and fand a shortened version of anything. A band needs to make money though, for equipment, traveling etc...so we plan on making our money through merchandicing and touring, if we make a bit of money from a CD . . .that would just be a bonus.

D-Day: You've been in the music biz for a long time. Tell us about the strangest, craziest or most Spinal Tap like moment you've experienced. Anything stand out that will always be a hit when you tell your friends about it?

Eddie: Well lets see . . .once there was this gig for about 100 bikers in Missouri, we're rocking along when I see this naked girl dancing on a picnic table! and shes like . . .spanking her own pussy . . . hard! bikers are throwing money at her left and right, well I'm like, ok this is pretty cool . . .hey . . .hey wait! is that? fuck man thats my wife! I did finish the song . . .a real pro. Maybe thats why she divorced me, cant dance naked in front of your own son!

D-Day: What is your main goal for Lucem Ferre 5 years from now?

Eddie: To be headlining tours all over the world man! to have fans singing my lyrics back to me, to have a million brothers and sisters. To be making music and playing with the best bands on the earth.

D-Day: thank you so much for speaking with D-Day's Revenge! Any final words you'd like to share with the readers and fans?

Eddie: Just a huge thank you to you D-day and your readers for taking the time to read this. The music you listen to on our pages was recorded in 8 hours. The re/recordings with Tom should be done by summer. Keep your eyes and ears open at Hot Topic for Lucem Ferre and Myka Jelinas Faries wear boots! Thank you again, this was an honor for us!
