"Erotic Pleasure and Tears"
While I had always thought of Goth music as something like Evanescence or perhaps Type O Negative, I found out through Ladymoon that there is a much darker and deeper side. I first received an ep / demo quite some time back that introduced me to a world of something more sinister. I listened to that disc before interviewing her at the time.
I now have a pre-release for her completed album which consists those songs as well as many more. The surprise of it all is that there is a variety of styles here and I enjoy the change-ups she has to offer.
I must say that I am not a goth and most of this particular style is more of a learning experience for me. But I do like alot of what is here as something different and interesting.
Many of the songs are like the original disc that I received and has more of a "poetic chanting" feel to it. Not so much of a singing style, but what you would imagine if you accidently walked in on a ritual with someone standing over a bloody alter and chanting something with only the whites of her eyes showing. Creepy, yes.... but right after you shit your pants you want to hang around to see what the Hell happens.
Other songs are like a surprise. Well first, there is the spoken word / poem called "Disappear" which is a deep and touching piece. It is also a joy hearing the "natural" sound of Ladymoon's voice for this. It makes me listen to it 2 or 3 times in a row to really get a grasp of it. That is immediatley followed by the deep "Broken Hearts" which is also a change of pace and beautiful albeit tragic.
And then there is the fun "Dominance". I'd be a liar if I said that her beauty didn't really make this one more exciting, but it will immediately be a fan favorite. Any song dealing with a woman having a sex slave and mentioning a golden shower as punishment gets giggles from me.
Basically; this album will definitely be for that select group of fans that that live and breathe that dark world. But not only is that a large group, Ladymoon could reign supreme among them.
