This is the second interview I've had with the band Krass Judgment.
Since our last discussion they have been steady in their performing, playing with some great bands, getting some radio airplay and are about to put out a new album. It's always great to keep up with some bands that we've talked to previously and provide someupdates for the readers. Ray was kind enough to talk with us for this "part 2".
enjoy...
D-Day: Welcome back to D-Day's Revenge! I see you've postponed a short tour to work on a new album. What came into play that affected the timing of it?
Ray: Well, a lot of things came into play. Money was the big thing. We really wanted to go on this tour and go down south and make some new fans but, it just didn't seem like it was the right time. We were having some issues with some of the promoters down there switching things around and not having things together. So it just seemed more feasible to take time off and work on a new album and just do local shows.
D-Day: How much time do you expect to spend in the studio?
Ray: We are shooting for 40-50 hours.
D-Day: Will this be on any particular label, or is it going to be self produced?
Ray: Self produced by me and the guys.
D-Day: How do you feel about labels in general? Would you prefer to be on something major like Sony, or do you feel like you would have more freedom on an Indie and prefer that over more money?
Ray: I really don't have any feeling besides that a label would be a big help to us. I really don't have any feelings on labels cause we haven't been signed to one. I guess it really doesn't matter to me or the band what label we get on because a big label can help us get big tours and a lot of exposure, a small label would let us have the freedom that we would want but, it really doesn't matter to us. So really we could careless what kind of label we get on as long as we can play music.
D-Day: You've gotten some good reviews from your show with Testament and we've discussed many "major" bands that you've played with in the first interview. Have you gotten any feedback about possibly doing multiple shows with some heavywieghts?
Ray: We have gotten plenty of reviews with Nationals like Testament, Overkill, Metal Church, Decide, Sodom and Finntroll to name a few that we have played with. Then Havochate, with Greg Christian really loved our band and asked that maybe in the future we could do a few shows with them. But as far as any other bigger bands that we have played with or have opened for, no we haven't been asked to do any multiple shows with any of the bands that we have opened for offically.
D-Day: How much of the new album will be available for listening on your websites? How much would you consider "too much" as far as available downloads of your music?
Ray: We are probably going to put two songs up in the beginning and we probably won't let anyone download then for the first 6-10 months to see how well the album sells go. We sell a lot of albums at shows and we usually do ok with it. The album is going to have 10 songs on it so we are looking forward to seeing peoples reaction. The albums will go for about $10, $5 if you show us your tits haha!
D-Day: You have alot of out of town shows coming up. How big of an area will you be covering?
Ray: West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania
D-Day: You mention Eden Burns as your buddies. Are there any other local acts that you seem to play alongside on a regular basis?
Ray: No but, we do have a lot of bands that are friends of ours just to name a few...Vatican, Darkness Foretold, Construkt and Dead Syndicate.
D-Day: Which band (not including yourselves or Eden Burns) have you heard and wonder, "Wow! Why haven't they been discovered yet?" Are there any like that?
Ray: Every band that we play with either in our area or out of state all have great talent. I don't think I have ever heard a bad band but, if I have to pick one I would have to pick Engage from Richmond, Va. Maybe the other guys in the band would have different views like maybe Dead Syndicate and I know that Darkness Foretold would be in that mix also. So fuck man, I really don't know there's a lot of good bands out there! So, anyone reading this get out to your local clubs cause there are a lot of good bands out there!
D-Day: I see that Krass Judgement gets some airplay on a Richmond station, 102.1 the X. (I've heard that station before when close to Richmond) Is it a special type of program that you are featured on? Like a metal show etc....
Ray: Yeah, we have been being played on Studio B on 102.1 the X since sometime this past summer. Studio B is played every Sunday night at 9pm for an hour. They usually stick to local Virginia unsigned bands. You can email the dj and request to hear your favorite local unsigned bands! We also get a lot of air time on Hard Rock Radio Live and Metal Massacare Radio, a few internet radio stations that we have been on for quiet some time now.
D-Day: Are there many radio stations in the area that would play your style of music? I know DC 101 used to play some fairly heavy songs a while back.
Ray: Yeah, DC 101 and 98 Rocks in Baltimore do. They both have like a local licks thing or noise in the basement things for local unsigned bands. So when we are done with the new album we will be submitting it to all the local stations in our area and Richmond and who ever else will take it!
D-Day: With the boom of the internet and music sites, do you think radio is really as important these days as far as publicity?
Ray: Yes, It's all important. Whatever you need to use to get your music out there and heard helps. No matter how huge of an audience or how small of an audience. Once one person hears it and likes it they will tell another person and if they like it they will tell someone else and that is how things get started.
D-Day: Let's try a quick multiple choice question......
"Krass Judgement is invited to play a song on The View. What would be the most shocking thing about that experience?"
a) The fact that you would be invited to The View in the first place.
b) Rosie O'Donell actually flirting with you.
c) Barbara Walters getting up and headbanging.
d) The fact that D-Day has the balls to add The View into any question.
Ray: A. The fact that we would be invited to The View in the first place but, Barbra Walters headbanging would be awsome!
D-Day: Thanks guys for talking with us again! The best of luck to you and keep us updated as you record your album. Any final words?
Ray: Yeah, I would just like to tell everybody, all the Krass Judgement fans out there! This is going to be the best album to date! It's going to be way heavier and faster than our previous cd's. Our song writing has gotten a lot better but, don't worry all you old school thrashers, it's still going to be a good album!
Keep up with Krass Judgement and hear some of their music here:
