D-Day speaks with Ginny
D-Day's Revenge...
Speak Your Mind!
For our next guest in the World Of Rock section, we meet a talented and caring young lady named Ginny. Besides being a huge helper in the promotion of many metal bands, she is also a talented musician as well as a volunteer with children; teaching them the wonders of playing guitar and more.
Enjoy the read...

D-Day: Thanks for talking with D-Day's Revenge. At what age did you start learning to play guitar?

G: I started at 5 yrs on grandpa's banjo..my mother then started me on guitar at 7 yrs

D-Day: I know you've been involved in a "Battle Of The Bands". What age were you then, and are you still involved with the group that you were playing with?

G: I got into ParaMed at 12 yrs (my B-day present..go me!)..the guys in band were all in their late 20's in the original lineup (one was older brother of a classmate) lol... the band broke up for good last spring..every now and then we all hookup for a benefit, but the band doesn't do paying shows anymore..

D-Day: How did you do in the competition?

G: First Place Baby!! We'd played a total of 30 some odd battle of bands from time I was 12 until I turned 19 and we never lost..not bad for a young heifer eh? lol

D-Day: How often do you sit in with other bands when they are playing?

G: A lot..have a lot of friends in bands and when I'm traveling I "guest"..I'm thrilled they all think enough of my abilities on guitar(wait maybe they want to prove I do suck..lol...) I also help out if anyone's guitar player has problems and can't play a gig..just did a guest gig last week in Spain..it was totally awesome!

D-Day: You have said that you also sing. Are there any other instruments that you play as well?

G: I sing, but frogs sound better..lol..I also play bass...banjo.. keyboards/organ/piano..drum a little..play auto harp and harp..but my first and foremost luv will always be lead guitar..

D-Day: What are the types of music that you normally play?

G: thrash/black metal/death metal..but I can also play some country and just rock/metal..NEVER WILL I PLAY RAP/HIP-HOP OR EMO! ..rather die first!..lolol

D-Day: Do you have any interest in being in an established band?

G: We were an established band, had a very big following, but not now of course..I've never considered myself to be the best guitar player..don't care what anyone else says about my skills..lol..I'm going to become a lawyer (child advocacy/band litigations)..but I'll always be in music somewhere..I've always played music for my own enjoyment. I've had Labels that wanted to sign me before, but they all wanted to change my style and I really got disillusioned, I mean seriously, if I was good enough that they noticed me in the first place, then why should I change?

D-Day: You do some volunteer work with children. Can you tell us a little about that? And do you also teach any of them guitar?

G: I've taught 20 kids to play either guitar, bass, drums or keyboards..I try and get people(usually other musicians, label, promo people) to do in their communities, what I do in mine...go into schools and mentor, donate equipment, hold fund raisers..anything that can help get music to as many children as possible..At Christmas I keep posting bulletins to remind all my band friends on gayspace to give some kind of gift of music at Christmas to schools in their areas. Last yr band friends in 12 states gave the gift of music to schools.....and right now there's a bunch of young ladies here where I live (age 7 to 13 ) and they are a band..getting ready to start playing shows, but their parents and I agree, they need to go at a pace comfortable for them, so they won't get disillusioned or burnt out.. there will be no rushing them..

D-Day: Let me go ahead and ask the cliche' question.... What types of reactions do you get when people see a young female step on stage to play guitar?

G: They first look at my boobs..ya, I know Imagine that! Some at first think I'm a groupie for the band..HARDLY!! After I start playing, the hecklers shut up..as it should be..lolol...I will say this when I first started, the reactions I got were horrible, but fortunately there's a lot of females out there now in bands, so it's a lot mellower now.

D-Day: Thank you again for sharing with us! Any final words?

G: First, thank you for wanting to interview me, I'm flattered and honored, cause I'm definately nothing special..all I want to say is children have it rough growing up..everyone in the music biz could greatly help any of these kids..I was very fortunate in that I had a mother, who was not only a musician, but also believed that no matter how great or small ..or no matter what the contribution..everyone can reach a child and give the chance for a love of music..and what a wonderful thing to do for a child....I firmly believe in that philosophy!

Be sure to stop in and say hi to Ginny! Also check out the hundreds and hundreds of bands she has on her page.
