I'll start the new year off with an interview with the band Asylum!
They are a goth / industrial band from Croatia and are about to release a new album.
Join me in welcoming them and showing our support.
D-Day: Asylum, thank you for speaking with D-Day's Revenge!
-0: Thanks , d-day revenge this is our first official interview for Asylum .
D-Day: How long has your current band line-up been together and how did it happen?
-0: We have been all together for about 2 years even if it is officially something less than that. The band is initiative of me and Mental Uther and we are most responsible for destiny of the band. Before the band was official formed we had some member problems,we were not very well known musicians in our country, goth scene never actually existed here and it can be said that we kept our creativity in shadow until it developed. At the start asylum was just like a rehabilitation beggining, there was a hard start ahead of us because the most of our members where musical beginners(But everything worked out fine as planned just as you can se (laugh)).Our first song was 'Mirrors Paradise' cover of band 'Kovenant'. We needed 6 months to make it sound right,But till then we had 5 of our own songs and few Marylin Manson covers.
Our First live show was on 3. November 2007.and we felt big suprise because none of us expected anything normal nor spectacular. After with a time some band members changed because of some weird reasons and i can say as a Frontman that now I am finnaly happy with band members.
D-Day: I understand that you have a new album coming out. Can you tell us about that?
-0: Yes.Actually it is going to be the First Official Asylum Album. It will contain 14 songs and few of them will be instrumentals. At Stilish point of view it will be a sequence to our present material but better elaborated and better recorded too.And just now we are recording our first song and we gonna use it to bait some major label...if that goes wrong then we gonna record the rest of it in Šibenik and put it out on sale on the internet.
How things are going now...album should be ready for launch at the end of May .
D-Day: Are you currently performing shows?
-0: Until now we played in Croatia only, but our ambitions wont take roots here so we are booking for spring-summer shows (Germany,Switzerland,Austria,Finland)
D-Day: It says on your site that you do not have influences from other bands. It is basically your own madness. (haha) Can you explain this?
-0: That will have to explain Mental Uther...that is his definition ,but mine is that only with our idea we achieved some kind of independence, uniqueness. We were born as a lucid but creative child that dont give a mind to what others say.Actually we dont care,Music or any other art is the best and most the most noble way of expressing everything you want to say,and some limits between light and Dark and mr.Peter Pan are breaking down – everything is becoming one more all taking Universe.
D-Day: How would you describe your sound?
-0: Our recorded material could teoretically be aligned into gothic/metal although there are all kinds of stuff and there is that line of Originality that almost every band owns-our line is called Madness we gave her that name.
Our new sound pulls behind old recepies but it makes them more sophisticated, music is becoming more and more fused by electronic elements and altogether it leaves impression of upgraded but in some way more commercial music.
D-Day: Allow me to go in a different direction. If you could tour with any 3 bands on a world tour, who would they be? Why?
-0: Deathstars-Because they are one Europian Band in upsurge just enough to make us their (pregroup) they have their story and i think we could fill each other well in live shows.
Psyclon nine-They really entered into the filth and they are americans and probably if our energies would combine there would be some psychic Vortex and that would be nice to experience in America. (hahaha)
Gothika-Japanese and goth-that creates a strong curiosity in me. I would really like to meet that people and play with them in Japan mostly.
D-Day: Would you like to play in the United States?
-0: USA are big.when it comes to me i would play even in a hole 1000 feet belove earth in USA.
But when it comes to organising and possibilities for bands...i would like that i was born there with all this experience...Let the USA wait for Asylum just for a little while .
D-Day: What is the music mostly like in Croatia? Is there a big metal or goth/industrial presence?
-0: 5 Years Ago the largest influence on music scene here had musicians and bands that excited patriotic thoughts in people, yet there was a war so people were easily played by that kind of rubbish. Now the mainstream is what you wanna avoid if you are the lover of art or alternative because there is no that kind of thing here in media.
There is some weak kind of underground alternative scene but i must admit that in Serbia people are much better organised.
D-Day: What is your favorite thing about being in a band? Pick one of the following choices.
a) Playing music that you created to as many people as possible.
b) To make plenty of money doing what you love.
c) Sex, drugs and rock & roll
d) All of the answers
There was no answer for this question...
D-Day: What has been the craziest or most memorable experience that you've had while performing live?
-0: Our last koncert In Šibenik was all by itself one unforgettable experience.
At the Opening we played one instrumental thing...actually it was a priest's preach, about Satan and Evil in the world and we made of it one of the sickest things that someone could hear ever.
Because of this little psychic harassement some group of bullies striked back at us in a more physical way.And There is that song Muthaga where I usually talk to my Puppet with nice voice. Some people should understand that there is a thin line between ingeniuity and madness and sometimes on koncerts that imagined, stupid line falls apart.
D-Day: Thank you once again for speaking with The Revenge. Any final words for the fans?
-0: Oh You citizens Of America, Have a happy new year- many koncerts and less boring psychological therapies because Koncert is the Best Therapy ever. Hope I'll see you in America one day and share with you my pleasure.(joy)
